Alphabet Recognition through Gross Motor

We will be working hard this year at recognizing our upper and lowercase letters. This is a big job for children. Providing a variety of alphabet activities in a variety of learning styles will help the information stick. Over the next month or so I will be posting alphabet recognition activities that are associated with a particular learning style. Hopefully this will give your child lots of practice and you an opportunity to see which learning styles they enjoy.

One way to help children learn their letters is by using movement. Gross motor skills are connected to memory. Having children use big movements to learn their letters can be very helpful, particularly for active kids. Have them make letters using their bodies or draw letters in the air with a straight arm. Another idea would be to draw letters on the driveway in chalk. Then have them trace the letters with a water bottle and watch the letters disappear. Writing Practice

One of the things we are focusing on this year is the proper formation of letters.

I really like these handwriting practice pages. There are clear directions for the proper formation of the letters, pre-writing practice as well as upper and lowercase practice. If you would like to give your child extra writing practice this week you can print these handwriting pages HERE.

Welcome!

Welcome to Preschool! I are so excited to start our 2012-2013 school year with you. This blog will be the main center of news for our classroom. Every Monday I will post an overview of what we will be focusing on during the week. Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays I will post classroom updates, homework explanations, and links to activities that will support what we are doing in class. On Fridays I will post a summary of how we did on our focus skills and additional practice material if needed.
